Merry Frickin XMas from P. Adamson CHP
I can’t believe this. My husband drives a lot, so I thought it would be good to get him a radar detector. He thought it was really cool and couldn’t wait to set it up for our drive home from my parents on Christmas Day. The thing worked like a charm, we were only a few miles from home approaching the back of our mountain on Highway 138 when the detector beeped, we were having a conversation and my husband braked quickly when we saw him (the cop). It had beeped previously but this time there was a detector. Cool. He was driving towards us the opposite direction. Wow, it worked though we weren’t speeding we were barely going the speed limit of 55 MPH. We continued up the winding mountain road for a couple of miles when suddenly the cop showed up behind us. Weird. Then he puts on the lights and pulls us over. I pulled the detector to look at it, but not much information on it (need to read the manual to see what other stuff this thing does).
He comes over on the passenger side and asks if he knows why he pulled us over, obviously we say “no idea”. What is the problem. Then he says ” you were going over the speed limit didn’t your ‘radar detector’ tell you?” (Duh, it only warns about a radar gun not the speed!) “No” we say. Really well I clocked you at 71 (BULL SHIT). We said no way we were not going over the speed limit, then he says, well then why did you brake? “Well because we were surprised to see you it was just a reflex”. Then I tell him that his radar gun must not be working because we were barely going the speed limit either 50 or 55 MPH. “That is the speed limit here isn’t it?” We ask, then he goes on about an over 16 miles rule for ticketing at his discretion and bull shit safety concern. Duh, no one on the road, we were going the speed limit and it was a clear sunny day, on CHRISTMAS DAY, WTF is he talking about? He claims he calibrated his radar gun that morning! “Then something is wrong because we were not going over the speed limit”, I say. He offered to show us the radar, but then we talked about this is Christmas Eve and we were not going fast, we were being safe, come on give us a break. He refused. Merry FUCKING Christmas P. Adamson #14729 says! We were so pissed off. How can you protect yourself from lying cops? He was driving towards us in a hilly, tree filled mountain highway. His word against the 3 of us, because he said that the radar gun does not maintain a record or print out. We simply took the ticket, what can you do? Forgot to check his radar gun because he said it did not maintain the record, but maybe it would have called his bluff.
Here is the California Highway Patrol ticket…
We will probably fight this. Need to subpoena all the radar gun records, laws and proper use. How can it clock us at 71 when we were going barely 50 maybe 52 MPH? Is there something with radar guns not recording accurate speed when the cop is moving towards you? It really sucks to drive in close-to-bankrupt California anymore.
BEWARE – Citibank Home Protection SCAM and Unethical Practices
I got a second mortgage, but I didn’t use if for frivolous stuff. I used the money to start my own business (http://spellspace.com) after I was laid off the second time from the IT industry. I figured I can get a job after 18 months and pay off the loan.
Then the disastrous economy struck and had trouble finding a job in California. My second was an interest only variable, and though my husband and I could afford it, my concern was interest fluctuations. I wanted to consolidate my first and second and get a fixed rate loan. So I contacted Citibank’s Home Assistance group for help. That was back in March 2009.
Citibank was panic struck about home prices in California and did not think I could get approved for a loan consolidation, so instead offered the Loan Modification Home Protection program.
Great news! Karen Hernandez from Citibank 301-696-4567 said I qualified and was approved for a loan modification. I had to first make ½ my mortgage payment for 4 months, then my loan would be modified to 4% interest for 12 months, then 5% then next 12 months and finally back to my normal 6% rate. This would lower my payment by $500 the first year. Sounded great even if my equity line interest rate changed, I could handle it! I signed up.
Four months later Vanessa Lopez from Citibank 866-963-0651 said the rules changed and I no longer qualified. She suggested I start all over with the process.
Debra Potter from Citibank 636-261-6251 was assigned my account and she indicated everything looked good and that my account was in escrow!
Then another month passed and my account was sent back to Vanessa Lopez. At this point I escalated to Vanessa’s supervisor Travis Right 480-753-2847.
When I called Travis Right, supervisor from Citibank Home Modification department his number and everyone’s number at Citibank Home Protection had been changed overnight! I called for several days leaving messages and finally got a call back from Vanessa. Needless to say I finally reached Travis Right who was completely condescending, rude and unhelpful. He didn’t care that I had been approved before and he transferred me to Jackie Stephens 866-915-9417 X80241 to get my account current.
I decided to try to get the consolidation done, since this is what I wanted in the first place, but I have been told by Jim Grass 636-261-8662 that because my 1st is more than 30 days behind I do not qualify (remember the 1/2 payments for 4 months)!
Unbelievable, rather than Citibank helping me, they made things MUCH WORST. In my business alone I paid $11K of bank service and finance fees in 2008 to Citibank. They’ll take all my money that’s all they will do, but will not help when I need it. Why the heck to we bail these crooks out? My tax dollars for them? I have an IRA, 4 savings accounts, 2 checking accounts and 3 credit cards, 1st and 2nd mortgage with Citibank and I am closing EVERYTHING. Don’t trust them even if its in writing, they just don’t care.
The Webby Awards Scam
The Webby Awards keeps sending me emails asking me to submit our website again this year. “Hurry, the 2009 deadline is October 30th”! Yes, last year we submitted SpellSpace.com. We created a login for the Webby judge to evaluate our website. After months of waiting, we finally got notice that we didn’t win anything.
Nothing, there goes $735 for submission under 2 categories. Not even a mention about SpellSpace on their website. Do a search on their website and you get nothing. But, what I find even more unbelievable is that the Webby Awards judges NEVER accessed our website. The last IP to access and log on to our website under the webby log in was our IP address, back in October 2008.
There you have it. Want to waste your money, then submit your new up-and-coming website to the Webby awards. The only way you will get any recognition from the Webby awards is if you are already popular and known. That way it ensures they get the press they need to scam more Web entrepreneurs.
